S355: thickness-dependent strength and J0/J2/+N designations
Why the S355 family does not have a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa at every thickness.
Sources checked:Understand the Material
The table gives manufacturer values for SSAB Multisteel SNL normalised plate; it cannot automatically be applied to every S355 product. This product may meet distinct standard classes such as S355N/NL and S355JR/J0/J2/K2+N.
The impact requirements differ: 27 J at 0 °C for J0 and 27 J at −20 °C for J2. +N denotes a normalised delivery condition. Read impact test results together with specimen size and orientation.
Technical Properties
| Thickness / SSAB Multisteel SNL | Minimum yield / tensile strength (MPa) |
|---|---|
| 5–16 mm | 355 / 470–630 |
| >16–40 mm | 345 / 470–630 |
| >40–63 mm | 335 / 470–630 |
| >63–80 mm | 325 / 470–630 |
| >80–100 mm | 315 / 470–630 |
| >100–150 mm | 295 / 450–600 |
Applications & Selection Notes
High-strength plate selection for structures and machinery. Welding, low-temperature and impact requirements must be assessed separately.
