Hardox® 500: hardness and fabrication properties

Hardox 500 sheet and plate hardness, and why it must not be confused with Hardox 500 Tuf.

Understand the Material

Hardox 500 belongs to the nominal 500 HBW wear-resistant steel family. Hardox 500 Tuf is a separate product; the 500 data sheet is not a substitute. The manufacturer’s yield-strength value of 1,400 MPa is typical, not guaranteed.

The hardness range changes for heavy plate. Sheet below 2.5 mm has a hardness-testing and guarantee exception. Higher hardness alone does not make a material more suitable for every application; impact and forming requirements must also be assessed.
