Hardox® 450: hardness and fabrication properties
Why the Hardox 450 hardness range changes for thicker plate.
Sources checked:Understand the Material
Hardox 450 has different hardness ranges according to thickness. Thin products and heavy plate must not be described by the same table row. The manufacturer gives 1,250 MPa yield strength as a typical, non-guaranteed value.
Below 2.5 mm, sheet hardness is converted from tensile strength, with an exception to Brinell testing / hardness guarantees. For bending and welding, follow the manufacturer’s thickness and carbon-equivalent conditions.
Technical Properties
| Product / thickness | Hardness (HBW) |
|---|---|
| CR sheet, 0.8–2.10 mm | 425–475; subject to thin-sheet exception |
| Sheet, 2–8 mm | 425–475; subject to thin-sheet exception |
| Plate, 3.2–80 mm | 425–475 |
| Plate, 80.1–103 mm | 410–475 |
| Plate, 103.1–160 mm | 390–475 |
Applications & Selection Notes
Wear-exposed equipment and liners. Select the grade considering the wear mechanism, impact and fabrication conditions.
